Reinventing The Happy Meal

It’s that time again – time to eat our weight in sugar cookies, dust off the old ugly sweater, drown our organs in festive alcohol, and bask in the glow of way too many twinkly lights. But for all things “sensory overload” that come with the holidays, this is also the time to spend with family, close friends, and homemade food. At their core, this time of year is about quality time, generosity, and community.

As the Chewse crew began to consider what we’d do to give back to our community this season, food seemed like the obvious choice. To us, there’s no better way to bring people together than with a shared meal. Making this a reality at offices around San Francisco is what gets us out of bed in the morning, and it’s why we’re so excited for our Tech Gives Back pledge to volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House, a place for critically ill children and their families to call home while receiving care at San Francisco hospitals.

The non-profit has been around since 1989, and provides supportive services and a community for families experiencing their hardest times. During these times, there’s nothing like a home-cooked meal, which is why volunteers prepare dinners for the families staying there. Volunteers plan the menu, bring the ingredients, cook in the house’s kitchen, and share their meal with the families that live there.

This year, the Chewse team is breaking out into groups to prepare four tasty meals. The menus are inspired by some of our favorite meals we send to offices with a family-friendly twist. To live out our mission of building community with food, we’re bringing the restaurant chefs along for the ride! Here’s what the Ronald McDonald House families can look forward to tasting from Chewse and our restaurant partners this month:

If your office is passionate about food and community like we are, consider the Ronald McDonald House for your Tech Gives Back pledge. You can find out more information about how to get involved here. Come back to the blog for updates from us about the people we meet, stories we learn, and meals we share this holiday season. Happy volunteering!
